Wet Cupping
One of the most important services we provide in the Al Modawah centers is wet cupping services.
What is wet cupping?
Wet cupping is a type of cupping that involves extracting a few drops of blood from the patient during the cupping procedure, by pricking him with a specially designed needle or by making very small cuts using a sterile surgical blade. Vacuum cups are applied to the patient’s body after making these cuts in order to extract a small amount of blood from his body. This method is useful in getting rid of toxic substances in the blood, removing bad blood, and improving the health of the kidneys and blood circulation.
How is wet cupping done?
Wet cupping involves more steps than dry cupping, and the following steps are usually followed to perform wet cupping:
- Prepare the patient and prepare a clean room with calm, comfortable sunlight entering the room.
- Preparing and sterilizing cupping tools, needles, blades, and bandages.
- The cups are then placed on the body dry, just like dry cupping, and the cups are left for 10 – 20 minutes on the skin.
- The cups are then removed, and the skin is pricked using a sterile needle or small blade to extract blood.
- The blood is repelled by placing the cups again on the skin. The same cups that were used the first time must not be placed, but rather they must be replaced with a sterile and clean set of cups.
- The cups are left on the body for about a quarter of an hour, then they are removed and a sterile bandage is placed on the wounds made in the skin.
- It is possible for the practitioner to dispense with applying the cups for the first time, and then suffice with pricking the skin, making cuts, then placing the air cups once, leaving them for a few minutes, then removing them.
